NHS Lothian Charity’s annual National ‘Elf Service Day proved to be a huge success, spreading festive cheer while raising lots of money to support patients, families, and staff across NHS Lothian.

On 11 December 2025, NHS Lothian Charity supporters and corporate partners donned their best elf outfits and embraced the holiday spirit to show their support. Many NHS Lothian staff joined in too, adding to the fun and sense of togetherness and community within the hospitals themselves.

From elf hats to full festive costumes, participants brought joy and laughter to the day while raising money for projects that make a real difference. Beyond the fun and fancy dress, the day had a deeper purpose too; spreading joy at what can be a difficult time of year for some and supporting enhancements that make hospital experiences brighter and more comfortable.

Kay McCormack, Interim Business Support Manager at the Royal Infirmary, said:

We had an amazing time raising money for the Charity! From enjoying lots of tasty treats at the bake sale, to getting creative with the dress competition, and testing our guessing skills with the ‘guess the weight of the present’, it was all great fun. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, having a laugh, and supporting such a brilliant cause.”

TracyAnne Miller, Employee Director, NHS Lothian and Branch Secretary, Unison Lothian Health Branch, added:

This is one of those days in the year that we look forward to. Not only do we get to raise lots of money for NHS Lothian Charity, who do so much amazing things for our staff and patients, but we get to dress up as Elves for the day. What is not to love about National ‘Elf Service Day.”

Tumong Edwards, Community and Events Fundraiser at NHS Lothian Charity, concludes:

National ‘Elf Service Day is always a highlight of our year. It’s amazing to see so many people get involved, have fun, and support our NHS in such a creative way. Money raised helps us deliver those little extras that make a big difference, especially during this time of year. A huge thank you to everyone who joined in, donated, and shared the festive spirit. Plans are already underway for next year’s event, promising even more fun and impact.”
