Climate Challenge Grants
We’ve simplified our funding application process – meaning that you no longer need to know in advance which fund or grant programme you’re applying to for charitable support.
So, if you have previously applied for a Climate Challenge Grant, don’t worry, you can still apply for charity funding with our new online application process.
What you need to do:
• Read our guidance notes for completing your application – Reading this fully before making a start on your application will maximise your likelihood of success.
• Submit your application through our online application form – You can’t save the form as you go so make sure you have all the details you need to complete it in one sitting.
• We’ll review your proposal and see if we can match it to a suitable funding stream.
• You’ll then be notified of the outcome.

Got a project in mind?

Get inspiration from some of the staff who are leading the change:
Cutting carbon emissions with an e-bike
Catriona, a Health Visitor, applied for funding for an e-bike to travel to appointments in her area. This not only reduces her carbon footprint by replacing car trips with bike commutes but also improves her physical health and mental wellbeing. By sharing her experience, Catriona has become a role model, prompting conversations about climate change and health with families in her area. Since receiving the grant, Catriona has travelled over 211 miles by e-bike, saving an estimated 88,000 grams of carbon.

Improving the disposal of inhalers
This project is an important step forward as the disposal of used, unwanted, or expired inhalers reduces the carbon footprint by ensuring safe destruction of the residual propellant gases.

Bee healthy project
Dr. Rosie and Practice Manager Phyllis at Carmondean Health Centre used grant funding to create bee-friendly borders and transform a grassy area outside the Health Centre into a wildflower meadow. This has not only increased biodiversity but has also provided a valuable outdoor space where staff and patients can rest and relax.

Reusable surgical hats
A team at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh is significantly reducing operating room waste and saving money after introducing reusable surgical hats thanks to our Climate Challenge Grant funding.

Enhancing the SMART Centre Reception Area with a New Outdoor Space
Recognising the potential of the outdoor space around the SMART Centre, staff applied for a Climate Challenge Grant to create a welcoming and calming environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Woodcast splints as an alternative to thermoplastics
Supported by our Climate Challenge Grants programme, NHS Lothian is rolling out the use of woodcast splints in hospitals across the region. This is part of their drive to reduce single-use plastics and their commitment to more sustainable healthcare.

Transforming Woodland House Courtyard
What began as an application to our Climate Challenge Grants developed into a collaborative effort to design a space that prioritises privacy, relaxation and wellbeing.
