As a charity, we are committed to enhancing wellbeing support for our NHS Lothian colleagues, recognising that happy and healthy staff leads to better patient care.

This is why we were delighted to support a recent wellbeing and development day for the Midlothian Hospital at Home team. This wasn’t just a fun day out for the team, but an investment in their wellbeing and a commitment to enhancing patient care.
The day was filled with a variety of activities, from informative workshops to fun team-building exercises. These varied activities gave staff the opportunity to not only expand their knowledge and improve their skills but also strengthen their connection as a team. “The team-building exercises were invaluable,” said a team member. “It’s amazing how much better we can work together when we understand each other on a deeper level.”

A happier, more engaged workforce leads to a more positive work environment, benefitting both staff and patients. And by taking time out to prioritise their wellbeing, the team indicated that this helps them be at their best to continue to provide compassionate and patient-centred care. “It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of healthcare,” explained one team member. “But taking a moment to recharge and connect with your colleagues is essential.” With another stating: “Personal and team growth, and personal and team learning will improve our team ethos of high-quality holistic patient care.”

By investing in all teams, from those visible on the frontline to dedicated support staff, we can support them to look after themselves so that they can provide high quality compassionate care to patients, visitors and each other.
