Supporting new training for Maternity Care in NHS Lothian

We recently helped fund a short film in which five families and a midwife talk openly about their experiences in partnership with NHS Lothian and LGBT Health and Wellbeing.

This video has been created as a new training resource for NHS Lothian maternity services staff which promotes person-centred care for LGBTQ families. It is now available to all healthcare professionals within NHS Lothian who provide care to LGBTQ+ families during the perinatal period. The film, produced by Media Education, captures real-life stories of families from the LGBTQ+ community who describe, in their own words, their experience of maternity care.

Though the film is only available to view via NHS training platforms for maternity staff, this project report captures some of the highlights of the participants’ stories, explores examples of good practice and makes practical recommendations, alongside a resource list compiled with support from Equality Network.
