Enjoying the fresh air and light of Spring. By Ian McKenzie

As I write this on the hottest day of the year, I am reminded how crucial our greenspaces are to help keep us cool. Across our sites staff, visitors and patients will be desperate to get outdoors and under the shade.

It’s been another busy and inspiring few months for Tonic Arts, with creative projects taking shape across NHS Lothian hospitals and healthcare settings. We’re delighted to share updates from across our enhancement, exhibitions, collection and participation programmes, showcasing the positive impact that art, design and creativity can have on patients, staff and visitors every day.

We updated our Privacy Policy on 17 July 20262 July 2025 to provide greater transparency, clearer explanations of data use, and updated information on communications, analytics and AI.

As the NHS approaches its birthday on 5 July, NHS Lothian Charity is sharing Caring for Carers, a staff wellbeing initiative designed to celebrate and support those who care for others, often in busy and demanding environments.

The transplant team at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh have carried out the first kidney transplant in Scotland using a pioneering cold perfusion machine.
