The 2024 festive season was a meaningful and memorable one for FACE, with families, volunteers and supporters coming together to create special moments and raise money to support people affected by cancer.

Celebrating the 30th FACE Lapland Trip

On Saturday 7 December 2024, FACE reached a remarkable milestone with its 30th Lapland Trip, taking children and families impacted by cancer on a magical journey to meet Santa Claus in Lapland.

Christmas can be an especially challenging time for families coping with illness or loss, and the FACE team do everything possible to make the experience joyful and memorable. The day was filled with festive fun, including playing in the snow, being towed by reindeer and huskies, visiting an Ice Palace, and finally meeting Santa Claus in his cabin deep in the forest.

FACE would like to thank Canterbury Travel, Edinburgh Airport, Jet2 and Caffè Nero for their generous support in making the trip such a wonderful experience. Special thanks also go to Santa himself for taking time out of his busy schedule, and to his helpers for providing selection boxes for all travellers at the airport.

A particularly special moment came when the pilot made an announcement thanking John Macaulay MBE for everything he has done to organise all 30 Lapland Trips and to lead the FACE team over the years. To mark this incredible achievement, Jet2 presented John with an engraved gift.

The Lapland Trip continues to mean a great deal to everyone who takes part, and FACE regularly receives heartfelt feedback from families who joined the trip in previous years. In 2024, FACE was also delighted to welcome the family who won places on the trip through our special 30th anniversary Lapland Raffle, kindly donated by Canterbury Travel, and raising an incredible £4,260 for our FACE fund.

FACE Winter Fair

Following its successful return in 2023, the FACE Winter Fair took place once again at the Royston & Wardieburn Community Centre on Saturday 30 November 2024.

The Fair welcomed back many familiar stalls and stallholders, alongside a café serving refreshments, a choir providing festive entertainment, face painting for children, and a special visit from Santa. It was a warm and welcoming day that brought together long standing supporters and new faces alike.

An impressive £6,205 was raised on the day, helping FACE continue its important work. FACE extends sincere thanks to everyone who came along to support the Fair, to all those who helped organise the event both in advance and on the day, and to everyone who donated items to support fundraising.

Special thanks also go to the team at Royston & Wardieburn Community Centre for their ongoing help and support in making the Winter Fair possible.
