Raising Awareness And Improving Knowledge Of HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Through Short Films

Tagged by

Thanks to funding provided by NHS Lothian Charity, Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS) has been able to develop a film for patients to watch in advance of their assessment appointment for HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).

Patient films have been shown to enhance and improve consultations by providing patients with easy to understand, standardised information prior to appointment. The LSRHS team applied to NHS Lothian Charity for small grant funding to help them develop a short film to help raise awareness of PrEP in all groups at high risk of acquiring HIV and introduce and reinforce information on PrEP dosing to help ensure adherence to guidelines. The film takes a holistic approach to PrEP, outlining the potential medical and psychological implications of PrEP, as well as conveying disease prevention messages.

The film was developed by a reference group of health professionals, third sector staff, and patient representatives to ensure the tone, language and style of the film was appropriate for patients and was inclusive.
