A Holistic Approach to Healing

We are delighted to have supported the teams at the Edinburgh Cancer Centre with their ongoing programme of works and their holistic approach to patient care.

From supporting transformational innovation and research projects to creating healing spaces that help patients and families navigate a difficult journey, our strategic partnership and collaborative approach focuses on putting patients and families at the heart of everything we do.

Key Achievements

  • Increased Clinical Trial Capacity: Expansion of Ward 1 allows more patients to access potentially life-saving treatments.
  • Transformative Healing Spaces: Therapeutic Art and Design programmes create calming environments throughout the Centre, including the Edinburgh Haematology Centre and Renal Dialysis Unit.
  • Supporting Cutting-Edge Research: Funding for research that paves the way for breakthroughs in cancer treatment.
  • Unlocking the potential of our Natural Health Service: Enhancements to FACE and Amanda’s Gardens promote the therapeutic benefits of nature.
  • Complementary Therapies: Support for therapy sessions fosters relaxation and wellbeing for patients.
  • Dedicated Patient Resources: Support for the development of a new ECC website provides vital information and support.

Beyond NHS Lothian’s Oncology Programme of Works

Although not part of the overall programme of works, we have also supported many other projects that benefit patients, staff and visitors. Collectively, these enrich the first-class facilities and services already provided and make a big impact on the overall experience of patients and families who are engaging with the Centre.

  • End-of-Life Care: Refurbished rooms in Ward 11 offer a calming haven for patients and families.
  • Staff Wellbeing: Dedicated relaxation spaces empower staff to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Art and Music Therapy: Live music performances and art exhibitions offer patients respite and positive distraction.
  • Exploration of the natural spaces around the hospital: A map of nearby green spaces encourages patients, families and staff to connect with nature.

A Lasting Impact

These projects, both big and small, significantly enhance the patient experience and contribute to Edinburgh Cancer Centre’s world-class reputation. We look forward to continuing to work together with the team at Edinburgh Cancer Centre, ensuring ongoing improvements for patients, staff, and families for years to come.

Some of these projects wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers who support our Fighting Against Cancer Edinburgh (FACE) and Breast Cancer Institute (BCI) funds.
